All of the objects in this gallery were discovered during past excavations in the amphitheater, and they are located at the Nîmes Archeology Museum. The excavation methods used at that time, which may be called clearing out, were less scientific than those used today. As a result, the exact context in which they were used is not well known: they may have been lost by those who occupied the amphitheater, or thrown away in it when it was used as a kind of dump after it had been abandoned. In any case, they cannot be linked to any precise activities that took place within the monument. Yet they bear witness to the daily lives of the peoples who spent time in the amphitheater. Their hand-written labels show the inventory methods used during the 19th century.
