Tombstone found in the Arena in 1810
90 cm x 34 cm
Translation of the inscription:
"To the Manes of Caius Poblicius Ingenuus and Cypare his freed slave and wife."
"To the Manes; to Publicia Cypare."
This is a rare tombstone, because it has an inscription on both sides.
Poblicius’s father was perhaps a public slave who, when he was freed, had received this name from his emancipation. This text shows that a master could marry his freed slave.
