This drawing by Jean-Marie Amelin (1785-1858) gives us a rare view of the inside of the amphitheater, before the complete demolition of the houses that still occupied the monument in the first years of the 19th century. The ancient arena floor and the seating in the podium area were still buried under several meters of debris under these constructions.
